Description

Sapota, also known as sapodilla, is a tropical fruit tree that is native to Mexico, Central America, and parts of the Caribbean. It is now widely cultivated in tropical regions throughout the world, including in India, Thailand, and the Philippines.

The tree can grow up to 30 meters tall, but is usually much shorter when cultivated for fruit production. Its leaves are glossy and leathery, and the tree produces small, inconspicuous flowers that are pollinated by bees and other insects.

The fruit of the sapota tree is a round or oval-shaped berry that is roughly the size of a large apple. It has a brownish, rough skin that is easily peeled, revealing a sweet, juicy flesh that is light brown in color. The fruit contains one to six hard, black seeds that are typically removed before eating.

Sapota fruit is high in vitamin C, vitamin A, and fiber, and is a good source of antioxidants. It is commonly eaten fresh or used in desserts, jams, and other sweet treats. The fruit is also used in traditional medicine to treat a range of ailments, including coughs, colds, and digestive issues.
